ATOME Energy Launches ATOME POWER to Supply Renewable Energy for Green Hydrogen Fertiliser Projects
ATOME Energy has launched ATOME POWER, a new renewable power division, to support its green fertiliser projects in Paraguay and provide long-term power solutions for third-party users.
The first project under ATOME POWER is a planned 400MW solar plant with battery storage near ATOME’s green fertiliser facility in Villeta, Paraguay, aiming to diversify Paraguay’s renewable energy sources and enhance ATOME’s market presence.
ATOME Energy PLC (AIM: ATOM), a leading developer of international green fertiliser projects, has announced the establishment of ATOME POWER, a new renewable power generation and infrastructure division. This initiative aims to provide a stable, significant, and independent income stream with tangible growth prospects, targeting the delivery of power as a service in Latin America.
The first project under ATOME POWER is a utility-scale solar plant with up to 400MW capacity and battery storage infrastructure, located near ATOME’s green fertiliser facility in Villeta, Paraguay. The company has optioned 685 hectares (1,680 acres) of land for this project, with feasibility studies underway. This development positions ATOME as a significant independent power producer in Paraguay, diversifying the country’s renewable energy sources and potentially offering long-term power solutions for third-party users.
ATOME POWER is intended to be an 80:20 joint venture between ATOME and Fondo de Inversion en Innovacion de Paraguay S.A. (FIIP). The project is anticipated to be funded separately from internal resources and/or at the project level, without any equity funding from the group.
CEO Olivier Mussat commented: “We believe ATOME POWER represents an excellent potential value-added income opportunity for our shareholders. Our new power business plans to capitalise on ATOME’s established relationships to enable accelerated project deployment and unlock expansion opportunities within Paraguay and across the region.”
Progress at the Villeta Project continues, with the signing of a definitive offtake agreement and the formation of an equity club expected around the end of June. The Villeta Project, benefiting from a 145MW renewable power purchase agreement and 30 hectares of land in a tax-free zone, is set to be the largest dedicated green fertiliser facility in the world … (you can find the rest of the news at the address below).
World Hydrogen Summit 2025: Chile strengthens its position in the Green Hydrogen industry
More than 60 companies and organizations from the sector, both public and private, related to global solutions for the production of H2V, are present in Rotterdam.
Headed by the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, the Ambassador of Chile in the Netherlands, Jorge Carvajal, and the Commercial Director of ProChile, Osvaldo Marinao; our country’s stand at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025, in Rotterdam, was inaugurated. The ceremony was attended by the city’s Mayor, Carola Schouten, and the CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, Boudewijn Siemons.
More than 60 companies and public and private organizations are part of the national delegation, with representatives from AES Corporation, Colbún, Fraunhofer Chile, Gasmar, Acciona Nordex, Techint, Wood, Marval, Arcadis, Free Power, EINAS, Sumitomo Corporation and ECIT, in addition to the associations PRI Biobío, H2 Chile, H2 Antofagasta and H2 Magallanes, who had the opportunity to visit the Port of Rotterdam, participate in the most important exhibition at European and global level, as well as seminars on business opportunities in Chile, carried out with the support of the Ministry of Energy, ProChile, the Chilean Embassy in the Netherlands, InvestChile and Corfo.
The objective is to strengthen Chile’s global position in terms of green hydrogen development. ProChile
In this regard, the Minister of Energy, Diego Pardow, emphasizes that “with the European Union, we have a long history of working together on the development of renewable energy. There is no doubt that being part of these types of global meetings is essential for showcasing the progress of the green hydrogen industry we are developing in our country, which contributes to promoting economic development, capacity building, and job creation in the poles where projects will be located.”
In that regard, the Commercial Director of ProChile in the Netherlands, Osvaldo Marinao, adds that “we are one of the countries with the greatest potential for green hydrogen exports in the world, while the Netherlands has the infrastructure and logistics to carry out distribution and storage. Therefore, we believe that both countries have what it takes to enhance their attributes and create business ties that will allow us to develop a sustainable industry.”
The international promotion instance allows small and medium enterprises of various sizes to connect with counterparts like the Port of Rotterdam, the largest in Europe, with whom Chile has a MOU (memorandum of understanding) for the export of green hydrogen since 2021.

It is in this context and with the aim of strengthening Chile’s global position in terms of hydrogen development, that the national delegation will be showcasing innovative work, partnerships, and key projects for the energy transition that are being worked on around H2V, reaffirming its commitment to a decarbonized economy and, in addition, its consolidation as a reliable partner for Europe in the green hydrogen value chain … (you can find the rest of the news at the address below).
Ecopetrol acquires Statkraft’s solar assets in Colombia to strengthen its portfolio
Colombian state-owned company Ecopetrol has signed an agreement to acquire Enerfín Colombia, the local subsidiary of Norwegian energy company Statkraft, which specialises in renewable energy. The transaction covers all the company’s assets in Bogotá, including eight projects under development and one operational solar plant.
Established in 2016, Enerfín Colombia has been operating the Portón del Sol solar plant, with a capacity of 130 megawatts (MW), for more than a year. This facility is Colombia’s first utility-scale solar installation. The agreement also includes the transfer of the local team. Completion of the transaction is expected in the third quarter of 2025, subject to standard regulatory approvals.
Statkraft continues strategic refocusing
This divestment is part of Statkraft’s strategy to exit markets considered non-core. The Norwegian company, which is fully owned by the state, acquired the Colombian assets through its purchase of Enerfín in May 2024. That acquisition significantly bolstered Statkraft’s presence in Spain and Brazil, adding a combined portfolio of 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar projects in operation or under construction.
Barbara Flesche, Executive Vice President for Europe at Statkraft, said in a statement: “This transaction marks the second planned divestment of our Enerfín portfolio outside our core markets. It confirms the work of the local teams and the strength of the Colombian portfolio.”
Ecopetrol targets renewables expansion
Ecopetrol’s acquisition aligns with the company’s ambition to expand its energy portfolio beyond hydrocarbons. While the transaction value has not been disclosed, the Colombian group is acquiring a set of already-developed assets, which may support its positioning in the local renewable energy market.
Statkraft, for its part, continues to focus investments in the Nordics, Europe, and selected South American countries, with the aim of scaling in target markets. The sale of Enerfín Colombia allows the company to reallocate resources while capitalising on the value of non-core assets.
The Portón del Sol solar plant, the first of its kind in Colombia to operate at utility scale, is now a key element in the country’s energy landscape … (you can find the rest of the news at the address below).
