Global clean hydrogen investment tops $130 billion amid energy security push, council says

10 September 2026. The Hydrogen Council reported that committed clean-hydrogen investment had exceeded $130 billion across more than 570 projects. Europe ranked second in investment, although high costs and weak demand continued to delay or cancel projects. The figures show that capital continues to move into the sector despite a more difficult financing and offtake environment. The report also underlines the gap between announced ambition and projects that can reach construction with secure customers.

Sicily’s first green hydrogen project gets green light

17 June 2026. Sicilian authorities granted environmental approval to Duferco Energia’s green-hydrogen project, the first of its kind on the island. The decision allows development to proceed toward construction and industrial supply. Environmental clearance removes an important permitting barrier but does not by itself represent final construction. The project could create an early local supply point for Sicilian industry and demonstrate renewable-hydrogen production on the island.

New EU ‘Decarbonisation Bank’ is perfect match for Hydrogen Bank

16 June 2026. An analysis argued that the proposed EU Industrial Decarbonisation Bank should complement the European Hydrogen Bank. Coordinated support could link low-carbon production incentives with bankable industrial demand. The proposed division of roles would support both clean-hydrogen supply and the factories expected to purchase it. Linking the two instruments could reduce offtake risk, which remains one of the main obstacles to final investment decisions.
