Asia-Pacific’s Leading Summit for Hydrogen and Industrial Decarbonisation

3–4 September 2026 | Australia — Adelaide, South Australia | Sustainable Energy Council / RX Global | Industry summit

The 2026 Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit convened more than 400 delegates in Adelaide around the theme of green industrialisation and hydrogen-enabled decarbonisation. Its program broadened beyond hydrogen production to cover green metals, sustainable aviation fuel, cement, methanol and ammonia, reflecting the sector’s increasing focus on bankable end uses. Organisers reported more than 50 speakers and over 20 suppliers, with the South Australian Government as host and Austrade supporting the event. The summit was a market-coordination and policy forum rather than an investment decision, but its agenda captured the region’s shift from export-scale ambition toward industrial demand, infrastructure and project execution.

Australia’s red soil may be hiding a massive clean energy source

29 August 2026 | Australia — Pilbara, Western Australia | ScienceDaily / Edith Cowan University | Research finding

Researchers at Edith Cowan University reported that magnetite-rich rocks from Western Australia can generate hydrogen naturally and that the reaction can be stimulated to increase output. Laboratory work found that particle form and reactive surface area materially influenced hydrogen generation, suggesting the Pilbara’s extensive iron formations may merit closer geologic-hydrogen investigation. If reproducible at scale, the process could complement conventional electrolysis by producing hydrogen underground without relying on continuous renewable electricity input. The results remain an early scientific finding, however, and do not establish a recoverable reserve, commercial production rate or environmentally acceptable extraction method.

Gold Hydrogen’s Ramsay 2 Flows Up to 20% Helium, Confirming Reservoir Continuity in South Australia

25 August 2026 | Australia — Yorke Peninsula, South Australia | NatH2Investing / Gold Hydrogen | Appraisal flow-test result

Gold Hydrogen reported that Ramsay 2 flowed gas containing up to 20% air-corrected helium during testing of the Kulpara Dolomite, with a further 19% recorded from the Hiltaba Basement. The company said the result supported its interpretation of continuity across an approximately 180-metre gross helium-bearing reservoir previously tested at Ramsay 1. Gross fluid rates reached up to about 2,300 barrels per day, although final gas flow rates had not yet been determined and natural hydrogen remained part of the wider appraisal program. The result is technically significant but does not by itself establish a commercial reserve, sustained sales-quality production or project economics.

Woodside scraps clean energy target, posts 7% first-half profit rise

25 August 2026 | Australia — Corporate strategy | Reuters | Strategic pullback

Woodside abandoned its longer-term clean-energy spending target and said it would concentrate capital more heavily on its core oil and gas business after reporting higher first-half profit. The Australian company also placed its Beaumont New Ammonia asset in the United States under strategic review, citing a market environment in which several clean-energy investments had failed to become economic. The decision followed Woodside’s earlier withdrawal from the H2OK hydrogen project and illustrates the pressure that uncertain demand and high production costs continue to place on hydrogen portfolios. Woodside retained its direct operational emissions target and continued work on selected projects, so the announcement was a portfolio reprioritisation rather than a complete exit from hydrogen.

Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive

25 August 2026 | Australia — National | Clean Energy Regulator | Regulatory guidance

The Clean Energy Regulator published detailed guidance for Australia’s Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive, a refundable offset of A$2 for each kilogram of eligible low-emissions hydrogen. The incentive will cover qualifying production between 1 July 2027 and 30 June 2040 for a maximum of ten years per facility. Producers must participate in the Product Guarantee of Origin scheme, meet facility and production-method requirements, and satisfy grid-matching and annual reconciliation rules where applicable. The guidance clarifies the compliance pathway but does not award support to individual projects or remove the commercial risks associated with hydrogen production.

Hydrogen spin-out Hysata a national finalist for research commercialisation

19 August 2026 | Australia — Wollongong and Port Kembla, New South Wales | University of Wollongong | Research commercialisation recognition

The University of Wollongong announced that electrolyser developer Hysata had been selected as a finalist in the Research Commercialisation category of the 2026 Australian Financial Review Higher Education Awards. Hysata emerged from university research on capillary-fed electrolysis and has since developed its technology and workforce in Port Kembla. The recognition concerns the translation of publicly funded research into a commercial company rather than a new electrolyser order, financing round or operating hydrogen plant. It nevertheless documents continuing Australian capability in electrolyser innovation during a period when several large hydrogen projects were being reduced or cancelled.

Hazer secures first paid Japanese utility study

18 August 2026 | Australia / Japan | Mining.com.au | Paid feasibility study

Australia’s Hazer Group and engineering partner KBR entered a binding, paid study with a tier-one Japanese power utility to examine deployment of Hazer’s methane-pyrolysis technology. The work will compare hydrogen production configurations of roughly 30,000 and 300,000 tonnes per year and assess how the process could be integrated into the utility’s operations. Hazer’s method converts methane into hydrogen and solid carbon, aiming to avoid the direct carbon-dioxide stream associated with conventional steam methane reforming. The customer was not named and the study is due by year-end, so this is a commercial validation step rather than a plant award or construction commitment.

Perdaman Selects Electric Hydrogen as Preferred Electrolyzer Vendor for Project Helios in Western Australia

17 August 2026 | Australia — Karratha, Western Australia | Electric Hydrogen | Preferred supplier selection

Perdaman selected Electric Hydrogen as preferred electrolyser vendor for the next development stage of Project Helios after the companies completed early engineering work. The proposed phase combines more than 1 GW of solar capacity with electrolysis designed to produce over 120 tonnes of low-carbon hydrogen per day. Hydrogen would supply Perdaman’s A$6.45 billion Project Ceres urea facility in Karratha, linking renewable production to an existing domestic fertiliser market. Preferred-vendor status is a procurement milestone, but the announcement does not constitute a final equipment contract or a final investment decision for the full hydrogen phase.

Australia’s Energy Commodity Resources 2026 Hydrogen

10 August 2026 | Australia — National | Geoscience Australia | National resource assessment update

Geoscience Australia updated its national hydrogen assessment as part of Australia’s Energy Commodity Resources 2026. The assessment records a smaller project pipeline than in the previous year and places that contraction alongside the targets in the 2024 National Hydrogen Strategy. It covers renewable, low-emissions and naturally occurring hydrogen resources, providing a government reference point for the sector’s project and resource base. The publication is an evidence and policy resource rather than a new project approval, investment commitment or production result.

Ramsay 1 Flow Test Results Enhance Helium Pathway

5 August 2026 | Australia — Yorke Peninsula, South Australia | Gold Hydrogen | Appraisal flow-test result

Gold Hydrogen reported completion of appraisal flow testing at Ramsay 1, part of its natural-hydrogen and helium project on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula. Gas flowed to surface and helium was separated, captured and concentrated, with air-corrected helium readings of up to 30% and a stabilised concentration of about 19%. The work also produced reservoir data for engineering and commercial studies, while the hydrogen-bearing Parara Limestone was scheduled for testing through other wells in the campaign. The result is helium-led appraisal evidence and does not establish a commercial reserve, continuous hydrogen supply or a final development decision.

Prominence Raises A$1.56M for Helium Hydrogen

29 July 2026 | Australia — South Australia | Fuel Cells Works / Prominence Energy | Capital raising

Prominence Energy raised approximately A$1.56 million to advance its South Australian natural-hydrogen and helium exploration portfolio. The company said the funds would support technical studies, permitting and preparations for a proposed 2027 drilling campaign, including work on the Eyre Project. The financing improves near-term exploration capacity but does not represent project construction funding or confirm that a producible accumulation has been discovered. Resource definition, drilling, flow testing and commercial assessment remain necessary before the company can demonstrate a viable hydrogen or helium development.

Second Quarter 2026 Report

29 July 2026 | Australia — Rockingham, Western Australia | Woodside Energy | Commissioning update

Woodside reported that leak testing and cold commissioning had been completed at its Hydrogen Refueller @H2Perth facility in Rockingham. The company shifted readiness for start-up to the third quarter of 2026 while maintaining an expectation of first hydrogen production in the second half of the year. The 2.6 MW electrolyser is designed initially to produce about 235 kilograms of hydrogen per day for transport customers, with potential expansion to approximately one tonne per day. Because the update came from a quarterly company filing, the schedule should be treated as management guidance until commissioning is completed and commercial deliveries begin.

Australian Hydrogen Council becomes the Australian Industrial Decarbonisation Council

23 July 2026 | Australia — National | Australian Industrial Decarbonisation Council | Industry-body rebrand

The Australian Hydrogen Council began operating as the Australian Industrial Decarbonisation Council, broadening its remit beyond companies focused mainly on hydrogen. The organisation said the change reflects the investment, infrastructure and policy conditions affecting emissions reduction at industrial assets, precincts, transport corridors and supply chains. Hydrogen remains within the council’s work, especially for ammonia, methanol, renewable fuels and other hard-to-electrify industrial applications. The rebrand is therefore a shift toward a wider, technology-neutral industrial mandate rather than the closure of Australia’s national hydrogen industry body.

GREENHILL ENERGY AND SA PINE SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR RIVERBEND ENERGY HUB

8 July 2026 | Australia — Tailem Bend and Monarto, South Australia | Greenhill Energy | Memorandum of understanding

Greenhill Energy and SA Pine signed a memorandum of understanding to examine future supplies of sustainable timber residues for the proposed Riverbend Energy Hub at Tailem Bend. The staged feedstock arrangement would draw on residues generated as SA Pine expands processing capacity at Monarto and would align supply with the project’s growth. Riverbend is designed to gasify biomass and landfill-derived material into hydrogen-rich synthesis gas for fertiliser, fuels and energy products. The agreement supports feedstock planning but remains subject to regulatory approvals and does not itself finance or authorise construction of the full facility.

Major 2D Seismic Acquisition Contract for HY Range Project

24 June 2026 | Australia — South Australia | Thor Energy | Seismic survey contract

Thor Energy signed a letter of award for an onshore 2D seismic acquisition program at its 80.2%-owned HY-Range natural-hydrogen and helium project in South Australia. The planned survey covers approximately 464 line kilometres and is intended to map subsurface structures and identify future drilling targets. It follows surface geochemistry work that recorded natural hydrogen concentrations of up to 3% in the project area. The contract advances exploration, but seismic interpretation and drilling are still required before the company can demonstrate a recoverable hydrogen accumulation.

Fertile Ground for Waste | Tailem Bend Project to use Woodchips, Landfill to make Urea Fertiliser

21 June 2026 | Australia — Tailem Bend, South Australia | Greenhill Energy | Project development update

Greenhill Energy highlighted plans for its Riverbend Energy Hub at Tailem Bend to convert local biomass residues and landfill-derived material into hydrogen-rich synthesis gas and ultimately urea fertiliser. The circular-economy concept is designed to pair waste management with domestic fertiliser production, reducing reliance on imported urea and conventional fossil-gas feedstock. The proposal builds on earlier project development and supplier discussions rather than announcing operation of a completed plant. Its climate performance, feedstock availability, financing and construction timetable therefore remain dependent on detailed engineering, approvals and commercial agreements.
