Global clean hydrogen investment tops $130 billion amid energy security push, council says

10 September 2026 • Americas / Global • Reuters

The Hydrogen Council said committed investment in clean-hydrogen projects had passed $130 billion across more than 570 projects worldwide. Roughly 90% of those projects were operating or under construction, representing about 6.9 million tonnes of annual clean-hydrogen capacity. The United States was identified as a leader in low-carbon hydrogen deployment, making the findings directly relevant to the American market. The report nevertheless stressed that high costs and insufficient firm demand continue to delay or cancel projects in hard-to-abate sectors.

Hydrogen in 2026: A Fossil Fuel Reality Check

2 September 2026 • United States • Clean Energy Group

Clean Energy Group updated its map and assessment of the United States hydrogen-project pipeline. The advocacy organisation concluded that more than 90% of projects already operating or under construction remained connected to fossil fuels, including hydrogen made from natural gas. Its analysis argues that public descriptions of a rapidly emerging clean-hydrogen economy can obscure the present production mix and associated emissions risks. Because the article reflects an advocacy perspective, its conclusions should be read alongside project-level emissions data and official programme reporting.

Una disputa en Uruguay por el precio de la electricidad pone en el centro del debate el proyecto de HIF Global de hidrógeno verde y combustibles sintéticos

12 August 2026 • Uruguay • pv magazine Latin America

A dispute over electricity pricing placed HIF Global’s proposed green-hydrogen and synthetic-fuels plant in Paysandú at the centre of Uruguay’s energy debate. The project has been valued at about $5.385 billion, but negotiations reportedly focused on whether state utility UTE could offer electricity near $40–45/MWh when other large users pay more. Critics warned that preferential pricing could shift costs to the utility, while supporters argued that an uncompetitive tariff might push the investment toward Paraguay. HIF Global had not publicly confirmed a relocation decision, so the project’s final site and commercial structure remained unresolved.
