While the IMO has a target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions from the maritime sector by 50% by 2050 (compared to 2008 levels) \u2014 a goal that could be increased in a forthcoming July meeting \u2014 it has been hard to see how it would get there, given that today\u2019s carbon-rich heavy fuels are much cheaper than cleaner alternatives, such as renewable hydrogen, ammonia and methanol.
