Agreement signed for $4bn waste-to-hydrogen facility planned on the Suez Canal

A memorandum of understanding announced today (June 1), between the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and H2-Industries Inc. plans for a $4bn waste-to-hydrogen facility at the Suez Canal’s East Port Said.

Located on one of the most strategically important shipping routes in the world, it is hoped the project will power Egypt’s domestic energy transition to allow the country to become an exporter of clean hydrogen.

The project anticipates a production capacity of 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, disposing of four million tonnes of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) per year.
